HALLOWEEN – I’M A WITCH, YOU’RE A WITCH, WITCH …
Halloween brings people together for fun in many countries around the world on 31 October. Indeed, people began celebrating this festival in Britain’s Pagan era. While the festival remains popular in many Christian countries, it also takes the stage with very colourful scenes in our country. In fact, the festival, which originally marked the beginning of winter, has taken on a completely different form over time.

Where does Halloween come from?
First of all, this festival was celebrated in Ireland, Scotland and England. With the influence of Christianity, people also began celebrating it to commemorate all the holy clergy and martyrs. Because the long winter nights were beginning, they would light fires and candles. They would also lay festive tables for the dead. After the 12th century, as it merged with Christian culture, people made and handed out soul cakes. If I offered you a slice of soul cake, would you eat it? They also believed they could scare away evil spirits by carving frightening faces into pumpkins.
It looks as though the witches are going to travel the whole world on their latest-model broomsticks. Meanwhile, as the broom symbolises femininity and domesticity, hats have also become a symbol of this festival.
Now that we have quickly gone over its history, let’s look together at what we do on Halloween and how we celebrate it.
The festival is the excuse, the parties are fabulous.
When it comes to how to become an alluring witch, in my view we should start with a nice witch’s hat. We should also backcomb our hair generously. And if we go for black lipstick with our make-up, we can make a wonderful witch. Next, let’s get to what we will wear. For example, I’m thinking of buying two pieces of tulle, black and nude, and designing a dress for myself. With black suspenders, the award for the sexiest witch could even go to you. You can also complete your costume with a nice pair of heels and head out into the night. But before that, if you want to surprise your neighbours, I suggest going door to door collecting sweets.
Are we ready for Halloween nights?
The most eagerly awaited party is at XL Club!
If you are ready for the surprises and antics of the XL staff and dancers, I’d say don’t miss it. Entry is 66 TL. In short, enjoy the fun to the full on 31 October.
Are you ready for INDIGO’s creative costume award? On top of that, a wild party where the prizes will keep coming awaits you later in the night. Entry is 50 TL.
And finally, my recommendation:
The Hall İstanbul! Are you ready to celebrate Halloween in a historic church building in the heart of Beyoğlu? The best costume of the party will win the golden pumpkin award. DJ Joel Knox opens the night. And entry is only 30 TL.
You can also easily find Halloween costumes in the arcades of Taksim. I also recommend checking out the website www.mitrakostum.com. Happy Halloween in advance.
