The Fall/Winter 2026-27 trends took shape on the runways through visible textures and romantic touches. That is why, in this dossier, we adapt them to everyday life in Istanbul.
The Fall/Winter 2026-27 collections shown on the runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris in February and March 2026 are now arriving in stores. In short, the season’s overall mood is this: quiet luxury is stepping back. In its place comes a more visible, textured and romantic approach to dressing. In this article, we first brought together the season reports of the international fashion press and listed the standout trends. We then adapted them all to Istanbul’s streets, climate and daily pace.
Note: The trends below are based on editors’ runway interpretations; they are not sales or consumer data. We have also listed the source of each section at the end of the article.
The mood of the season: “I want to be seen”
First of all, Hypebeast’s menswear review wrote that FW26 brought about the end of quiet luxury. It also noted that classic tailoring and Ivy League codes were being mixed with other aesthetics. Red, cobalt blue and yellow, meanwhile, were counted among the season’s standout colours. A similar shift can be seen in the women’s collections. The Impression, for example, said the season’s clearest common thread was romanticism. It added that after a long period of neutrals, colour had regained emotional weight.
The mood darkened on the beauty side, too. Vogue Singapore’s runway beauty round-up explained that after spring’s floaty florals, fall turned to dishevelled hair, black lips and “after-party” eye make-up.
8 standout trends
1. Dresses with trains and long skirts
First, in Coveteur’s report, illustrated with Launchmetrics images, the season’s number-one motif was the train. Jonathan Anderson at Dior, Loewe, McQueen and, in New York, Kallmeyer, for example, showed silhouettes that swept the floor or trailed behind. Although the trend may seem designed for evening, many designers even carried it over to daytime coats and long skirts.
2. Texture above all
The same report also singled out texture as one of the season’s focal points. Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, Matthieu Blazy at Chanel and Louis Vuitton, for example, put surface centre stage. W Magazine also drew attention to unexpected materials. Inside-out silk, heavy-looking pleated silk and rubber pieces featured in the collections of The Row, Dior and Loewe, for instance. Finally, in Milan, FashionUnited noted Prada’s fabrics that looked “moth-eaten” and Roberto Cavalli’s distressed knit sweater.
3. Fur (mostly faux) is back
Coveteur wrote that fur made a strong comeback this season, citing Gucci, Chanel, Schiaparelli and Valentino as examples. FashionUnited’s Milan report sharpens the picture: while Emporio Armani, Diesel, Etro, Prada and Gucci showed big, fluffy faux furs, Bottega Veneta achieved a fur look with glass fibre. W Magazine read the trend under the heading “(faux) mink” through Gucci, Valentino, Phoebe Philo, Toteme and The Row.
4. Checks, tartan and gingham
Coveteur counted checks, tartan and gingham among the season’s biggest pattern trends. The most prominent example was Chemena Kamali’s Chloé collection; Acne Studios, Burberry and Rabanne also followed this line.
5. The new suit: slimmer and sharper
In the trend W Magazine dubbed “Wall Street women”, oversized men’s jackets gave way to slimmer, sharply cut dark suits, pinstripe fabrics and hats (Saint Laurent, Gucci, Tom Ford). Coveteur, meanwhile, covered the return of the skirt suit through Tom Ford, Jil Sander, Ferragamo and Chanel. The Impression pointed in the same direction under the heading “structured power”.
6. Dark romance
Gothic and romantic references stood out at Saint Laurent, Ann Demeulemeester and McQueen (Coveteur). On The Impression’s list, Simone Rocha, Valentino, Dior, Zimmermann and Chloé appeared under the heading “romantic drama”.
7. Mixing night and day
W Magazine named one of the season’s most wearable ideas “fancy/casual”. This means wearing a silk skirt with a sporty jacket or an evening dress with a pea coat (Alaïa, Prada, Altuzarra). According to summaries in secondary sources, Harper’s Bazaar also read the season through unexpected pairings: knitwear with eveningwear, tuxedo pieces worn by day, and tartan paired with dressy fabrics.
8. Colour clashes and animal print
W Magazine spotted bold pairings such as forest green with baby pink and pink with orange at Loewe, Akris, Prada and Louis Vuitton. Leopard, cheetah and zebra prints also returned with Balmain, Celine and Ralph Lauren. Citing Net-a-Porter’s trend guide, Who What Wear wrote that chartreuse (a yellowish green) and purple appeared constantly throughout the month.
Accessories note: open bags and big brooches
Coveteur noted that open-top bags (Chanel, Loewe, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton) and oversized brooches and appliqués (Khaite, Simone Rocha, Dior) were the season’s accessory signature. These two details are the cheapest way to move into the new season without changing your whole look.
How to wear it in Istanbul
Istanbul’s autumn is humid and its winter windy and wet. Much of the day is spent on hills, on ferries and on public transport. So rather than copying the runway one to one, the trends need to be filtered for the city.
For the ferry and the wind: faux fur collars, thick textures
Instead of a full-length fur coat, choose a wool coat with a faux fur collar or a fur-effect gilet. The wind blows hard on the Kadıköy-Karaköy route; thickly textured knits and woollen fabrics are both on trend and practical.
For the hills: not a train, but a long skirt
A floor-sweeping train is hardly practical on the slopes of Cihangir or Galata. Interpret the trend with an ankle-length skirt that is slightly longer at the back, or a trench with a long back hem. Wear boots underneath to be ready for the rain, too.
For the office: slim suits and tartan
In the offices of Levent and Maslak, a dark, slim-cut suit is this season’s safest investment. You can add a seasonal feel to the look with a single tartan piece (a skirt, a scarf or a jacket).
For the evening: the night-and-day mix
For dinner in Nişantaşı, a satin skirt with a chunky sweater or a silk blouse with a pea coat is all you need. W Magazine’s “fancy/casual” idea suits Istanbul’s “straight from work to dinner” pace perfectly.
A budget-friendly tip
W Magazine wrote that many collections were built around accumulating outfits over time and second-hand pieces. That is good news for Istanbul’s second-hand shops and markets. The tartan jacket in your mother’s wardrobe or a faux fur collar found in a shop in Kadıköy is entirely on point this season.

Bringing the Fall/Winter 2026-27 trends into your wardrobe
Rather than trying every trend at once, adding one or two new touches to the basics in your wardrobe is a more sustainable approach. You could, for example, update an existing coat with a tartan scarf, or a simple knit dress with a textured bag or boots. Before going shopping, identifying the three pieces you will wear most over the season protects both your budget and your wardrobe.
New York, London, Milan and Paris, where these trends were staged, are known in the fashion world as the “Big Four”. For how fashion weeks work, you can also see Wikipedia’s fashion week entry. Finally, we have compiled the season’s calendar in our 2026–2027 fashion week calendar article.
