Let’s go right back to the start… Would you share the story of how you were discovered?
I’m Aysu Bedelzade, I was born in 1999 and I work as a model in Azerbaijan.
My first shoot was for a car company, and that’s how I became known; that moment was special and unforgettable for me.

    Have you come across
    any surprises
    during your modelling career?

    Mmm… no 🙂

And what’s the strangest moment of your modelling career?

There’s nothing strange really; everything is going really well and smoothly right now.

How would you describe yourself as a model in 3 words?

    Sexy, eye-catching,
    unrivalled.

Above everything else, what’s the most unforgettable moment of your career?

The shoots I did with a car at the very beginning were an unforgettable moment for me.

    Favourite names and style

Who is your favourite model of all time?

    Adriana Lima

And what do you think are the 3 most important things?

You have to be sincere, and be very calm and patient; then everything turns out well and looks good.

What tips and advice do you have, especially for models just starting out?

There’s only one thing I can say to new models. Don’t be jealous of your rivals; on the contrary, help them. You won’t get anywhere by doing harm, because I’m living through this: there are many people who wish me ill, but they’re always the ones who lose. Always be yourself and never try to be like anyone else; then you’ll be different and loved.

Did someone give you these tips?

    No

Have you had any negative experiences with modelling agencies or production companies?

All my jobs bring me luck, touch wood; I’ve never had a problem with any company or agency.

Who are your favourite fashion designers?

Fexriyye Xelefova, our wonderful fashion designer from Azerbaijan

Do you have a favourite pair of jeans? Which ones? Which brand?

    Yes. Mavi Jeans

What are the things in your wardrobe you could never give up?

I couldn’t give up my mini skirts and my high heels.

Which period of your life or career would you like to go back to?

I wouldn’t go back; I look to the future

Do you have a style icon? Who?

There are people I like, but I don’t have an icon

    Your favourite store?

My favourite stores are Louis Vuitton and Chanel

Do you have any secret beauty tips? What are they?

Being well-groomed is the biggest secret.
I don’t use things like that; I don’t believe in them — they all just have a brand name, the rest is empty. I do natural shoots, and I only work with advertisers, stores and hairdressers.

    Photo shoots and appearance

Who is your favourite photographer? And why?

My favourite photographer is the one who did the shoot that first made me known,
    Aqil Huseynzade

Which photo shoots are the hardest for you, and why?

I don’t do bikini or very revealing shoots, so I don’t find it very hard.

What’s the difference in posing between advertising shoots and cover shoots?

I don’t think there’s a very big difference, and not every cover photo uses the same pose. I think the look in your eyes should be striking.

Has anyone in the modelling industry wanted to change your appearance? Or have you changed it? On which shoot, or who? And what did you do?

    No one has tried
to change me, because they really like my style and I’ve never had any cosmetic
    surgery.
Maybe they like that I’m natural. And I would never change myself because of what someone says; whoever likes me should like me as I am

    Personality and lifestyle

How would you describe yourself as a person in three words?

In one word, I’m ambitious; there’s no need for the other 2 words.

By the way, when people think of a model, healthy eating and dieting come to mind. Why do you think that is, and what does it mean for them?

Because a model has to be fit; since they’re well-groomed, all that comes to mind is diet
and fitness, and they’re right, actually — lots of our models exercise, but I never have.

If you had a superpower, what would you choose?

Changing people’s minds. Everyone needs that; some people criticise us as if they were stuck in the nineties — with those ideas, of course you won’t like us

When you’re not working (in your free time), what do you like to do?

In my free time I prefer to sleep, but I can’t say no to spending time with my friends

How much meditation/exercise do you do to stay in shape? Or is this your natural body?

My body is natural and I eat whatever I want; I have genetic beauty. 🙂 Lots of people think I do fitness, but no.

    What makes you feel sexy?

I don’t need to feel it. I’m already sexy

What’s your favourite part of your body?

    The slimness of my waist
    makes me feel attractive.

And your favourite dish or food?

Langet, hamburgers and fries are my must-haves

    Change, time and the future

If you could choose just one thing, what would you like to change about yourself?

    There’s nothing I want to change…

What are your favourite things to do in your free time?

I love having fun, and most of the time I’m with my family; the person who gives me strength is my mother

Do you have a mentor or adviser?

    I manage my own work; I don’t have a manager. I can’t trust anyone.

Finally, what’s your next career plan? Or what might it be?

I want to host a show, on very different topics — in fact, it will be a programme unlike anything on any channel; I’m sure you’ll love watching it, fingers crossed.

What’s more, how have people treated you differently since you became a model?

I’ve managed to make people like me, but oh, our girls 🙂 the girls don’t like me that much, and that actually gives me strength, because if you can’t stand someone, it means they’re different 😉

Notes from the Aysu Bedelzade interview

The standout message of the interview is to be yourself. Aysu Bedelzade advises new models not to be jealous of their rivals but to support them instead, and not to try to be like anyone else. She also explains that she manages her career herself without a manager, prefers natural shoots and has not faced pressure to change her appearance.
